The total of $9,001,052 was 15 percent less than the goal for the 2008 a reduction campaign leaders believed was necessaryu because ofthe recession. The announcement was made at the UPAF 2009 campaigm finale atthe ’s Stiemke Theater. The campaign was led by co-chaira Julia Taylor, president of the , and Rich chairman, president and CEO of "We have workex hard to reach our goalof $9 millionj in this very challenging environment, " said Taylor. Meeusebn noted that many UPAF member arts groups have had to make cuts in the programminband staff, but the donations made to UPAF helped prevenf more drastic changes. "The arts make life worth living," said Meeusen.
"Clearly individuals and businessed recognize that the performing arts are indispensable to the vitalitu ofthis region." The campaign was helped by a challengw grant UPAF received in June from that attracted new donors and increased donations from existing donors. Johnson Controls matched all new andincreasedc gifts, dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000.
