The company announced the milestone Thursday and said the system was installede on a home on Round Top Drivdin Honolulu. The program debuted on Oahu, Maui and the Big Islande 13 years ago. There are now an estimateed one out ofthree single-family homes in Hawaii with solaer water heating. Keith Block, director of HECO’s Customer Efficiencyh Programs, said the program has reduced the demand for electricityby 111.3 million kilowatt-hours a year sincs it began. That is the equivalentf of the estimated annual electric usagr of morethan 14,000 HECO has nearly 80 solar contractors on Oahu, Maui and the Big Islanf it authorizes to install the solatr systems.

In Wisconsin 11,102 workers lost theire jobs last month as part ofmass layoffs, down from 11,53o0 in March but still much higher than the 4,3889 workers who lost their jobs in mass layoffs in Aprilk 2008. The April 2009 tota l was sixth highest inthe nation. Nationwide, the numbert of mass layoff events decreased from montgto month, as did the number of affectefd workers. The bureau counted 2,712 mass layoffs in April, comparec with 2,933 in March.
Wisconsin recorded 108 mass layofff eventsin April, down from 109 in March. A mass layofc is defined as a single action by a singles employer that causes at least 50 workerds to losetheir jobs. The Bureai of Labor Statistics calculates mass layoff data on a seasonallhadjusted basis. The manufacturingg sector accounted for 35 percent of all mass layofcf events and 39 percent of affectexd workersin April. California recorded the largestr number of workers affected by mass with 43,675 losing their jobs last month. It was followed by New York at Illinoisat 17,550, and Pennsylvaniaq at 15,378.
