Cordray rejects 1st try at casino petition language - Dayton Business Journal:

Cordray, in a letter to the committee backing thecasino initiative, said the wording in the petitiojn doesn’t constitute a fair and truthfulk summary of the proposed constitutional Paperwork arrived at Cordray’s office March 12 for the initiative, whicu would ask voters to approve building casinoas in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toledo and on the western edge of the Arensa District in Columbus. Wyomissing, Pa.-based and owner Dan Gilbert would be the investors inthe $1 billiojn proposal. Cordray told the casino committee thatthe petition’zs summary of locations included in the proposal references citiesx but should be improved to include exacf locations.
That would assure thosd signing thepetition aren’t misled that the citiee have the option of where to placed the casinos, Cordray wrote. The state’s top government lawyetr also pointed to wording in the petition detailingb parameters ontaxing gamblers’ Cordray wrote that the petition’s wording contains a “substantial change” in Ohio law. That law currentlhy dictates that gambling winnings are taxable by the state asordinary income, but the petition’s language impliezs winnings wouldn’t be Bob Tenenbaum, a spokesman for the , whic h is backing the initiative, said the wordingy was unintentional and will be corrected.
“What he’s implying was not our intention,” Tenenbaumm said. The committee, which collected 1,000 signaturew before bringing the petition languager tothe state, must collect another 1,000o before delivering the revisions, which Tenenbaumk said could take place in as littlew as a day to complete.
