“This is a major change, for the for healthcare in WesternNew York,” said Jamews Kaskie, Kaleida president and chiefv executive officer. The GVI, which will be connected to BuffalooGeneral Hospital, is part of a sweepinhg series of developments Kaleida has plannedx for the medical campus, including shifting the current operationd from Millard Fillmore Gates Circlw Hospital and the Deaconess Center to the downtowmn Buffalo campus within the next few Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital is expected to be fullyg incorporated into the medical campus by Octobef 2011, Kaskie said.
The Millars Fillmore transition is one of the recommendations fromthe state-appointe Berger Commission that looked at streamlininy medical services around New York state. “This is all part of the new futuree forhealth care,” Kaskie said. As part of the GVI Kaskie said negotiations are wrapping up with Buffalo officials that will see the city transfer a small portion ofGoodrichh Street, beginning at Ellicott Street, to Kaleida, a move that will alloew for smoother pedestrian access to the various medica campus buildings and to handle some logistical concernxs with regards to the GVI.
That sliver of Goodrich Streeyt is rarely used by the generalk public and is primarily forBuffalp General-bound vehicles. The GVI is expectedc to take at least two yearsto construct.
